[net.unix-wizards] Putting filter in printcap?

hurf@batcomputer.TN.CORNELL.EDU (Hurf Sheldon) (09/23/86)

I am having some bit of diffilculty getting my way with output to
an HP laserjet from a uvax with dhv11, Ultrix1.2. The data gets thrashed into
various 7bit interpretations unless we run in 'raw' mode but then the xon xoff
doesn't work. If I had a filter & placed that in 'of' in printcap what would
the parameters passed to the filter be. Would that filter be the final
step? In other words would the spooling daemon send the job to the filter
or get it from the filter?
We are trying to spool graphics & ascii to the printer - it actually
worked once briefly but we tried to improve on that & can't seem to repeat
ourselves - it does seem that the dhv has some settings we don't have complete
control over. The printcap settings seem do do more & less than advertised.
Can this printer be connected without a special filter?
