[news.misc] peer review

There may be some periodicals designed strictly to pad the
curriculara vitae (or whatever the plural is) of academicians.
But many have rigorous criteria for publication -- even
acknowledged leaders in a given field can find themselves
forced to rewrite or to submit to another periodical. Also,
the unofficial penalties for phony articles are steep. So
while an academician might get an occasional fluff piece
published, or might rework the same piece from several
different angles for several different mags (an article on
the behavioral ecology of the spinal cord injured might
legitimately be published in periodicals related to:
psychology, rehabilitation medicine, nursing, and
architecture, and possibly others), it is definitely
*not* wise for him/her to submit false reports or
to frequently submit junk.

Para un Tejas Libre,
