The first thing that occurred to me after I learned that the epicenter of last night's quake is between SF and Santa Cruz is how many netfolk live in the bay area. Our thoughts are with you, people. Good luck. Let the nets know if there is anything it can do for you. lee

>The first thing that occurred to me after I learned that the epicenter >of last night's quake is between SF and Santa Cruz is how many netfolk >live in the bay area. > My site is in Sunnyvale, ~20 miles from the epicenter. We are not in flames. We have about 200 unix boxes at this site alone and we didn't lose a single one due to the quake (HP quality plug). Silicon valley didn't get hit that hard since most of the building are newer and I guess the ground is a little firmer here. San Francisco, Oakland, Los Gatos, Santa Cruz and Watsonville were hit the hardest, and Silicon Valley suffered a minimum of damage compare to what you see on the front page. Unfortunately, the media will show the worst and then print a headline such as "Massive Quake Devastates S.F.". Driving to work this morning I saw one sign which was knocked down and no other damage. However, I live about two miles from downtown Los Gatos and it looks like a war zone. >Our thoughts are with you, people. Good luck. Let the nets know if >there is anything it can do for you. > Thanks for caring. There are a lot of people in need. ---------- John
