Or better yet, has anyone made notes talk via nntp? Nope. NNTP depends upon "article numbers" which are an artifact of the news "database". Notes doesn't have article numbers, and they would have to be added in order to implement NNTP. I doubt that anyone has done it. I am interested in Notes because of its access permissions facility. Then don't use NNTP, because NNTP can't tell you who the client user is, so there is no way to do access permissions. Apparently there is a version of NNTP that uses the Kerberous authentication system, but that is definately non-standard and not yet available. wunder

I have ported notes to VMS in my spare time over the last year. It is about 95% done. The version I have up and running networks three VMS system by using copy over VMS and TCP (from a unix system). I haven't reported all of the programs that come with notes (like from and to news), but, it seems to do a good job. If you are interested in the VMS version (you need to have the VMS C compiler and version of VMS 4.4 or greater, send me mail and we can talk about it. Also, does anyone know what the status of notes is, is it PD or what? Carl Fosler {ima,ihnp4}!inmet!fosler fosler@inmet.inmet.com Intermetrics, Inc Bethesda, MD (301) 657-3775.
