[news.software.notes] newsinput: garbled header

z@rocksanne.uucp (Jim Ziobro) (04/01/88)

I am running NYU notes here and I noticed that I am getting messages in
net.log like:

3/31 19:34	comp.lang.misc: <2944@enea.se> response inserted
3/31 19:34	newsinput: garbled header

I think this happened when we converted to a new version of news. In particular
the news version which does not keep the version header lines. I will be
making changes to newsinput to prevent these messages but just in case
someone has already done it I would appreciate hearing about it.

Also has anyone else done anything interesting to NYU notes recently?

What's the difference between NYU notes and the HP, U of I versions?

I believe that NYU notes 1.7 bought back most (if not all) of the NYU
features. Judging from comments in the code, this included lots of
work on the news/notes gateway (an area I spent some time on at Mirror)
and the "universal sequencer" (l) key. (E.g., Salkind's name appears
in lots of files.)

HP notes apparently keeps all the news headers in its database, so
that with minor wrappers it can use the common news transport
programs. I do not believe it is available outside of HP.
