[news.software.notes] Future implementation of archives -- your input needed

gore@eecs.nwu.edu (Jacob Gore) (05/18/89)

A small survey here... Please mail your responses to me, I will post a
summary of what I get. This is not just for my curiosity, your replies
could be very important to the future direction of Notes.

This survey is short, please reply as soon as you can. Thanks!

Jacob

-----------------
The importance scale is 1 (unimportant) to 5 (crucial). Please feel free
to make your comments as elaborate as you like.

0. Which version of Notes are you currently using?

1. How important is the notes archive capability to you (saving and
retrieving expired notes -- not talking about deleting them with
    "nfarchive -d")?

 a. Do you currently use it?

 b. Will you miss it if it's not there in future versions of Notes?

2a. How important is it to have the archives stored in compressed form?
 -or-
2a. How important is it to have the archives stored in uncompressed form?

 b. How important is it to be able to choose compressed or uncompressed,
per group? (or suggest another level of granularity for the choice)

3. Would the following archival scheme be acceptable to you (in other
words, would you be willing to abandon your current archival scheme if
    this one is provided instead):

	1. Notes from group X are archived in group old.X
	2. Topic thread continuity is NOT maintained between X and old.X

If it is not acceptible, please tell me why.
