In two days, I've already seen over 70K of material on this subject. That is equivalent to a single issue of OtherRealms. This is a classic case of the cure being worse than the disease. Rather than let this turn into a multi-megabyte flame event, I want to let everyone know that the results are already clear, and so I would like to suggest that everyone be quiet and stop wasting net bandwidth. I've seen three negative responses to the Expires. I've also seen at least fifteen positive responses (I stopped counting, frankly). So if you're looking at this as a vote, the Expires wins by at least a 5-1 margin. As far as I'm concerned, I'll continue to use the Expires line as long as I'm convinced it is an advantage to do so (for OtherRealms and the net) and not a problem. Any system administrator who does not agree with me with this position is welcome to add OtherRealms to their early expiration list or to stop carrying the newsgroup entirely -- that's your right as an administrator. Since OtherRealms is now quarterly, I'll be setting the expiration date to between two and a half and three months, so that the old issue will (hopefully) expire shortly before the new issue is distributed. Thanks for all the feedback, both positive and negative. Constructive criticism is always welcome (just very rare on this network) chuq Chuq Von Rospach chuq@sun.COM Delphi: CHUQ We live and learn, but not the wiser grow -- John Pomfret (1667-1703)
