The Institute of Latin American Studies of The University of
Texas at Austin is in the process of compiling a directory of
electronic mail addresses for Latin American studies centers. This
directory will also include Central and South American scholars and
universities accessible from the Internet, Bitnet, UUCP, etc.
The purpose of this directory is to facilitate the interchange
of research and ideas between scholars in various fields doing work
related to Latin America. We believe that the networks can become
an important tool in the social sciences but that this form of
communication is presently under-utilized. Hopefully this directory
will increase the use of networks by economists, historians,
sociologists, and others without extensive computer experience.
If you have an e-mail address and consider yourself a Latin
Americanist or are a Latin American scholar, please contact us. We
will send you short information sheet to fill out and include you
in the directory. Within a few weeks a copy of the directory will be
sent to you.
If you are not a Latin American scholar but would like to help
with our project we encourage you to assist those colleagues who
you know to be active in Latin American studies in contacting us.
This assistance could take the form of forwarding this message either
electronically or in hard-copy to others, or by spending some time to
explain the use of networking to your local Latinamericanist.
