In a few days, the machine amd will be taken off USENET. This was caused by excessive consumption of machine cycles and disk space. Early next January the machine will move from Santa Clara to Sunnyvale. All the phone numbers will change but the new numbers are not known yet. But that does not matter because most of its uucp connections will be dropped. We will be depending on UUNET as our primary link to the outside world. We have been spending an excessive amount of staff time maintaining our uucp connections and going to UUNET will be a big time saver for us. In the past I have been very sympathetic about giving out mail and news connections because it used to be difficult to get connected. Now anyone can be well connected for a very reasonable fee and need not depend on the kindness of strangers. Our news and uucp neighbors should take the appropriate action. -- Let's go to the mall and see how long people will wait for our parking space!
