[news.admin] How long are you keeping news these days [Europe]?

dww@stl.stc.co.uk (David Wright) (01/15/88)

Just to give a comparison from over the pond - I keep articles for 35 days
at present (we have a new disk - it wasn't always so). We get all the groups
available - talk and some rec groups don't come to Europe, but we get
most of the other 'standard' groups, alt.sources, alt.gourmet, all the inet
groups, plus of course uk and eunet groups. Currently 35 days gives
60MBytes (20,000 inodes) in /usr/spool/news though it's usually nearer
70MBytes. Over the last few days we've received:
01/06/88 593
01/07/88 663
01/08/88 676
01/09/88 842
01/10/88 809
01/11/88 428
01/12/88 599 articles.

Our long expiry time has been useful over the holiday and catch-up period.
Eventually I may have to shorten it.
