bcs212@vader.UUCP (Vince Skahan) (04/08/88)
I'm running news on a ring of Apollo workstations with one registered node "vader" serving as the UUCP/USENET gateway. Since that fellow posted the erroneous checkgroups messages a couple of weeks ago, I have been experiencing a pretty wierd problem (I'm not blaming anyone so no flames please - my problem could be totally unrelated but I haven't touched anything in 3 weeks and it was working before that). Basically, postnews successfully posts to anything locally, it's just that the article doesn't get spooled toward our news neighbor. It appears that the /usr/lib/news/sys file has to have the newsgroup fully defined for posting to work to the remote system (posting to to.neighbor works completely, posting to comp.mail.sendmail works locally but never hits the outside world). In case you're wondering how you're reading this since I can't post to the outside world... rn works!!! I'm at a bit of a loss to figure out how rn is successful and postnews is not when they are using the SAME sys file. Any help would be appreciated as there are a bunch of people around here who like to use postnews who are under the impression that articles are getting out to the net. -- Vince Skahan Boeing Computer Services - Phila.
