Our site (uunet!nfsun) has just installed Netnews software on our Sun 4/280, and we are now receiving a partial news- feed from uunet. Already we have been inundated with the volume of articles, and have quickly got the expire program working to limit the extent to which all our free disk space is being consumed. When checking that the expire program was working, we looked first at the /usr/spool/news/control files. They were untouched! Looking elsewhere, we found expire *was* removing old files. It seems that the messages stored in the control files are acted upon immediately by the news software, and thereafter serve no useful purpose. If this is so, does anyone know of any reason why we should not purge them, say every night ? Thanks in advance for any advice! -- Mark Williamson (412)931-7600 Customer Services Dept. uunet!nfsun!cserv1 Intelligent Technology Group ** Views expressed are not necessarily Pittsburgh, PA those of my employers **
