[news.admin] A bit of perspective

dewey@execu.UUCP (Dewey Henize) (07/18/88)

Since I posted my last message, I haven't recieved any other notes or read
any further comment on MES, but nonetheless I wanted to state that I will
accept all further flames without comment.

You see, I just watched 60 minutes here. There was a great section (perhaps
a repeat, it doesn't matter) on some of the people who were crippled before
birth by the Thalidimide (sp?) tragedy. There were folks that have every
reason, by the standards we have been using here, to be totally depressed
and despondent, yet there were people with no arms, no legs, crippled limbs,
and other serious problems who were making do and doing damned well. They,
each and every one of them, knew they had handicaps. They knew they weren't
'mainstream'. They knew that some folks didn't like them for reasons that
were totally bogus - and they were going on anyway, and trying to really make
a life for themselves.

About halfway through I suddenly flashed on these folks in comparison to the
crap on here about being so horribly abused by a stupid gender pronoun, and
it took all the fun out of it. I guess I don't make a good net flamer after
all on this kind of stuff, but the MES crapola seems fairly mundane and
childish in comparison.

Have fun Mark, or whoever you are. Get your kicks however seems best to you.
Sue the net administrators, buy yourself into more hassles or whatever you
do that makes you feel like you count. But, if you get real bored sometime,
get your local CBS affiliate to screen for you that segment. And see if you
REALLY want to complain so heartily....

A washed up hassler...
