[news.admin] Reposting parts 1 and 2 of StuffIt 1.5

bytebug@dhw68k.cts.com (Roger L. Long) (08/23/88)

Because of quite a number of people reporting that parts 1 and 2 of the
recent StuffIt 1.5 posting were truncated, I'll be reposting them to
comp.binaries.mac.

I'm usually quite reluctant to do this, since I feel that it's not my
responsibility to insure that postings are received intact. If a
significant portion of your news isn't being received intact, it might
be a good idea to look around for a different news feed. And don't
make things worse by passing on the truncated articles to other sites!

In this case, I'm fairly sure that StuffIt 1.5 will be of sufficient
interest to justify reposting. The supersedes option put into 2.11
news will keep the articles from taking up extra space, so it's a
little less painful to repost than it used to be.

One of the major complaints against the comp.binaries groups is the
unreliability of the data transmission method. But instead of just
dumping comp.binaries.all, wouldn't all of the net benefit from
increasing the reliability with which articles are transferred?
Counting lines isn't enough.
