We are looking for a way to give users here on-line access to the list of government projects called the Commerce Business Daily (CBD). Currently most people seem to be relying on hard-copy printouts. From what I have heard of this database -- paragraph-long abstracts cross-referenced by various keywords -- it sounds like the type of thing that could be handled quite comfortably as a set of read-only local newsgroups. (We use rn as a reader here.) If anyone is actually doing this, would you mind either posting or sending e-mail describing your setup, experiences, and any problems that have come up? Thanks. -- - Susan Cole USENET: ...!hplabs!sri-unix!cole ARPA: cole@unix.sri.com

An electronic version of the CBD is available on DIALOG. Search strategies can be saved and run every day (that way an organization like SRI can skip the announcements on bolts or fruit cocktail procurements). The cost for a daily search would be under $20...and you would have the current day's announcements today (not next week). The ascii download could then be pumped into a newsreader on your network.
