As most Usenetters realize, there has been a 'disgusting slime throwing contest' going on between Mr. Chucky Brunow (loci@killer, loci@csccat, wherever) and me (and several others). Lets see if we can figure out why. This is going to be a long article, so for those of you who are not interested in this thing, please hit your 'N' key now :-) I would like to move any further discussion of this topic to alt.flame (or email) to get it out of news.admin. But if Mr. Chucky wants to continue it here, I guess we can. >From <2595@csccat.UUCP> Chuck Brunow (loci) writes: Get this, one and all: there was nothing offensive, abusive, profane, insulting or otherwise objectionable about my posting to which you refer. Nothing. The fact that Allen Gwinn responded with a completely unprovoked attack is his problem, but I had no part in it. None. Nothing offensive? In <5572@killer.DALLAS.TX.US> Chucky writes (referring to one of my postings): However, if posters are going to assail others with flames, insults, lies, etc., etc., it really makes no difference whether they use a handle or their name... ...so chill out. Later on in <2595@csccat.UUCP> he continues: If Allen Gwinn is free to post slanders and lies about me, there is no way you can tell me that I haven't the same right: no way. But I don't choose to stoop to those depths and some people seem to think that that's a sign of weakness or something, and gives them the right to publicly post ridiculous lies. Ok... I've been archiving too, Chucky. Lets have a go at it. Keep in mind that NONE of this is EMAIL, these are things that Chucky has posted in the past to various individuals on the net. Why archive Chucky? I'll answer that one in a minute. Let's start by taking a look at his stance on articles he finds "offensive". Here is a quote from an article posted by him in the past week: In <5572@killer.DALLAS.TX.US> he writes: The net has a perfectly good mechanism for dealing with postings that cause aggravation; the reader merely doesn't read whatever they find offensive. If it's too extreme, unsubscribe. WOW! What a turnaround considering the following quotes made by Chucky in the past: Article <1750@csccat.UUCP> Chucky writes: [...speaking of articles containing offensive material...] As a first step toward rectifying this abuse, I call upon all those SA's who pass such offensive material either to down-stream sites or directly to net-users to publicly state that they will not tolerate it and will take whatever steps are necessary to disconnect repeat offenders, and mean it. Then Kenn Barry at NASA Ames posts an article refuting most of the points that Chucky made in his article. So does Chucky just "ignore" or "not read" whatever he finds offensive? No, he has a different approach... he threatens to raise hell at NASA because Kenn dares to question him: Article <1784@csccat.UUCP> Chucky writes: Ah, NASA-Ames is it? Now, how many sites are operated by public colleges and universities? If they receive any federal funding, or if they just get my state taxes, ... Beginning to get the idea? Yes, that's right, if you want to use "free speech" to abuse the decency of the net, I can use my "free speech" to strike at sensitive pressure points. No legal fees, no law suits, just good clean fun. Beginning to get the idea? Does it stop there? No... before this big flap, there was another one. John Haugh (SA of rpp386) received thru UUCP, what was believed to be a public domain "YACC". It turned out not to be. After being contacted by AT&T's attorneys, John purged all copies of this from his system as well as sending out notification to other sites connected to his system that could have gotten a copy of this (mine was one of the sites as well as Chucky's). Did Chucky just check to see if the sources were on his machine and rm them? No... instead, he decided to post a whining, moaning, name-calling little piece to news.admin (and several other groups). Instead of wanting to be sure that he didn't accidentally have a copy of someone else's proprietary software, he was more concerned that AT&T had his name as a connection to John's machine. There's more? Yes, there is. Finally, it has been brought to my attention that Chucky decided to play "hacker" on at least one occasion and break security on at least one machine here in the D/FW area. I would be happy to post details if Chucky would like to dispute this. Lets see if he does. -- Allen Gwinn ...sulaco!allen Disclaimer: The facts stated are my own. |Olympic Trivia: In 1960, East German pole-vaulter Hans Zimmer set a new world| |record with his 17'9" vault.
