Thanks to all the people pointing out the potential security bugs with automatic map unpacking programs, the latest version of the getmaps program distributed with the news source has been sent to comp.sources.unix. It is also available via anonymous FTP from unmvax.unm.edu (129.24.12.128) in /pub/getmaps.c. This is an official distribution of getmaps.c; we encourage everyone to get the latest copy. It would probably be wise for whoever it is that prepares the USENET tapes to get this and stick it in place of the old circa 1984 version. Lee Ward says "please". Michael I.
