Hello. Not too long ago I posted my program uns.c in response to the big
discussion about shell scripts for unpacking maps. Right after that, I
became involved in switching jobs and couldn't follow what was generated
from it. However, my fiance kept me up to date, and I finally felt compelled
to post again. He was nice enough to set up this temporary account for
me until I am established at my new job (sometime after Jan 3, as that is
my first day). Anyway, just to add my own comments about the current
discussion, I think that the person who suggested putting in checks for
slashes to prevent things from being written into other directories is quite
right. It hadn't even occured to me! I don't think that anything should be
done with shell scripts, and changeroot (I forget the name of that command),
since the ENTIRE purpose of me writing that program was to avoid shell
scripts. Of course, what everyone else does is up to them. The program is
not meant to be smart, so just aborting the unpacking if there is a slash
in the file name would be ok. It was made specifically for unpacking maps
anyway, and I've never seen a slash in a proper map shar.
anyway, that's my opinion of things.
(now I can go read news! its been 2 weeks!
-- yes, that is withdrawal symptoms!)

by the way, if anyone sent me mail to the old address, it will be answered
after my old boss forwards it to me when I get my new account.
