Hello Net,

I am looking for an implementation of DIBOL which runs under
UNIX. DIBOL is a language widely used for commercial purposes.
DEC supplies it under its oprating systems (except I believe
VMS).

I have a friend (without net access) who needs a DIBOL
implementation for UNIX/ULTRIX to run on the PDP-11's and
MicroVAXen.

If anyone could shed some light on how difficult it is to port
things from a RSTS system to this UNIX/DIBOL. Is it easy (i.e.
just recompile) or hard (will need to write your own libraries,
apply kernel changes etc.).

Please help.
Is there anyone in DECUS who could help ?
Love,
Snoops

There is a version of Dibol called DBL that runs under unix. I have not used
it but have seen some packages that were written on DEC machines ported
successfully to AT&T machines using the package. Contact your AT&T rep. for
info about it... It may also be possible that it runs on other UNIX boxes.

There is also a version of DIBOL from a firm called Lion's Gate Software in
British Columbia, Canada.

DBL -- the version of DIBOL (or at least one of them) that runs on
UNIX is also available on the CCI Power 6/32 and Power 5/32. The company
that sells it is DISC, and they're in Sacramento at 916-635-7300. We
(at CCI) don't have much experience with it to date, although it looks
quite good on paper and DISC seems to be a pleasure to deal with, but we
should be getting more experience in the near future.
