[news.admin] "Time warp" recirculating old news

stevo@elroy.jpl.nasa.gov (Steve Groom) (03/29/89)

One of elroy's neighbor sites, "aero", has had trouble getting through
to us for some time now. That problem was recently fixed. However,
they had a *LOT* of backed-up news for elroy which was promptly dumped
on us when the connection returned to life.

Rnews was smart enough to junk the really old stuff, but there was a
gap of a little over a week in between where rnews would call an
article junk and where elroy's history file remembered seeing it before
and rejected it. Before we noticed the problem and cleaned out the
backup, elroy managed to forward a bunch of this stuff on to the rest
of the world. You may have already seen some of it. The articles all
contain "elroy!aero" in the return path.

We have up'ed the history expiration time to help prevent this in the
future. Sorry about the mess.
