[news.admin] Official Guidelines for USENET Newsgroup Creation

rja@edison.GE.COM (rja) (04/25/89)

I still feel that mention needs to be made regularly (monthly ?)
in news.announce.newusers and news.groups about the existence
of the "inet" distribution and the precise method that can be used
to request that a mailing-list promoted to an "inet" newsgroup.

Another regular posting to news.announce.newusers and news.groups
that is needed is "How to setup and manage a mailing-list" or
perhaps the address of some kind soul who is willing to answer
such questions from would-be mailing list folks.

These really need to be separated from the existing regular
postings so that the existing confusion about these two items
will be widely removed from net.folks.

Perhaps a mailing list for mailing list admins and moderators might be a
good idea.

Such a list exists; mail to moderators-request@purdue.edu to join.

This is a list of mailing lists available primarily on the UUCP
network. A mailing list is different from a newsgroup because you do
not receive anything unless you specifically request it. To be added to
a mailing list, please mail a note to the contact for that list, listed
   below.

Some of the lists mentioned may be available as limited-distribution
newsgroups. Contact the administrator for exact details.

If you have a list that you want added to this posting or are interested in
starting a list but don't know how, drop me a note at spaf@purdue.edu
