I recently posted an article posting a request for help with the nodename on a 3B2/400. I received information on checking /etc/rc.d/nodename to make sure that a line such as "uname -S sysname" was in it in order to set the nodename. Today, I had an interesting turn of events. The computer was configured as specified above. I happened to be at the 3B2 and sent mail to my system at home just to check on it again. I received the mail with the correct return address! I suddenly realized that I had always been logged into the 3B2 remotely when I had sent mail to my own system and the return address had been unix. Does the OS treat someone that is logged on remotely differently? I don't understand why this occurred. And it is indeed that. I just tried to send mail to myself by logging onto the 3B2 and addressing mail to my own system. The system name in the return address came out as unix! Why is this happening?
