Our news volume has dropped considerably lately -- is there less news these days (college students going home or studying for finals?), or are we just not receiving some of it? We seem to be getting everything our feed does. As a quick check I tried "ls -lR | grep 'Dec 12' | wc" from the news spool directory, and then tried the same thing using a date from last week. Subtracting ~500 for the directories we got about 2200 messages Tuesday, and about 3300 messages last Wednesday. And we do seem to have gaps in some threads (example: we received RISKS 9.50 and 9.53, but not 9.51 or 9.52). Is this our problem, a problem local to the lower left-hand corner of the US, or normal for December? -Dan uunet!ashtate!dveditz dveditz@ashtate.A-T.COM
