I'd like to form a local newsgroup. Any clue is highly welcome as I
have no a bit idea how to start with(I've installed rn).

Well, a good place to start is by posting in the correct newsgroup.
Comp.unix.questions is for questions about Unix. The "news"
hierarchy, on the other hand, is for discussing netnews, which seems
much more relevant in this particular case. So, I've cross-posted
this response to news.admin, which is for discussing the
administration of NetNews sites, which is what your question is about,
and I've directed followups there.

Now, the second thing that needs to be pointed out is that the
newsreader you are using has nothing to do with how you install
newsgroups at your site. Since you say that you've installed rn, I
assume that you've also installed the rest of the news software, in
which case you can tell us what news software you are using -- B news,
C news, or something else entirely?

If you're running C news, you need to modify the ME entry in your
sys file so that it mentions the top-level hierarchy under which you
intend to place your local groups (if you intend to create a new
hierarchy for them, which is what is usually done). Then you use the
"addgroup" command as news to create the newsgroup. You might also
need to add the newsgroup to the "newsgroups" list in your lib
directory, but I'm not convinced that's necessary.

If you're running B news, the procedure may or may not be similar
(I've never admin'd a C news system, so I don't know for sure.). But,
in any case, I encourage you to upgrade to C news :-).

If you're not the person who administrates news at your site, then
you need to ask that person to create the newsgroup; random users
can't create newsgroups.

  I hope this helps.
