[net.lang.lisp] A LISP neophyte needs a little help with Franz Lisp

charlie (01/24/83)

I am trying to learn LISP. I have several books and a course
to go to but no one here who has preceded me down the path of
using Franz Lisp on our Vax 11/780 running Berkeley 4.1 UNIX.
My initial problem is learning how to edit save and restore
various functions and to debug them. The .l lisp files are
kept on /usr/lib/lisp locally and some of them seem to activate
ok when I do a (load 'editor) at the lisp top level. Others
seem to try to include something called cmumacs which isn't there.
Also the editor.l file doesn't work according to the rules
given in chapter 16 of the lisp manual we have. Also, the fixit
debugger doesn't load either. Do I have to load machacks.l
manually first? Could someone mail me the cmumacs file?
Is there any beginer material that shows how to create, edit,
store, retrieve and debug functions in Franz Lisp? Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Mail to ...decvax!genradbolton!charlie
or phone 617-779-2811 x371 and I'll call back.
