[net.lang.lisp] LISP help for beginners - some hints

charlie (01/25/83)

I got two replies to my request for help last Sunday. One hint
in particular is invaluable. There are undocumented functions
built into Franz Lisp called (vil file.l) and (vi file.l)
that invoke the standard editor vi from within lisp which allows
a function file to be edited and automatically loaded when you exit the
editor. (vil ..) loads the new file. I will avoid the use of
structure editors for now. I think I have cmumacs now too but haven't
had time to try it out. The version here is Opus 36. I will
summarize other useful beginner information in a few weeks after
I learn some more.
