[news.sysadmin] Map file format for d. files

kutz@bgsuvax.UUCP (Kenneth Kutz) (02/25/88)

Dear Fellow Netnews Administrators:

I am running news release 2.11 patch level 13. When uuhosts runs it
is not correctly extracting the all of the hosts in the "d.usa...." files.

The README that I received with the news softare states that there should
be EXACTLY ONE hostname on the "#N" line of the map entry. The "d.usa..."
files we receive have several hosts on that line.

What does something like this mean? This is a line from my d.usa.oh.1

----->        #N	.att.com, cbosgd, clyde, ihnp4, ulysses, mtune

file I received in February 1988. When uuhosts runs it does not
create an entry for 'cbosgd' in the "Index" file since uuhosts only
looks for the first system name in the "#N" file.

When I issue the command:

$ uuhosts mtune <RETURN>

I don't receive any "uuwhere" information about it. It gives me a path
but I'm not sure how pathalias figured it out since there is not
a seperate map entry for the system "mtune" nor it's neighboring sites.

I looked through the news.admin and news.config newsgroups for some help
in this area but there was nothing relevant. We would greatly appreciate
any assistance you could offer in this area.

Also, I mailed a request to "sources@uunet.uu.net" for patch #14 but
haven't received any word yet. Is this the best place to look for such
software?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
