[news.sysadmin] cbosgd being phased out

tgt@att-cb.ATT.COM (Tim Thompson) (03/23/88)

The backbone machine "cbosgd" is being phased out. It is owned by a
project which needs to put it to other use.

Fortunately, there is work going on within AT&T for the establishment
and administration of formal e-mail and netnews gateways.

A new machine, "att-cb", will be taking the place of "cbosgd". This new
machine will provide all the functionality that "cbosgd" used too, plus
it will be staffed by a full time administrator whose job it will be
to monitor/fix e-mail and/or netnews problems as they crop up.

If you currently have a connection with "cbosgd", you need to contact me
ASAP, so that we can get things migrated over to "att-cb".

I would prefer you contact me electronically at any of the addresses listed
below. When making such contact, please include all necessary information
that I will need to put in my Systems file so that this new machine will
be able to talk with you. After receiving this information, I'll install
it and test out the link by sending the new information to connect to
"att-cb". If your version of UUCP will not let "att-cb" in without having
it listed in your Systems file, please put a dummy entry in, something
like this:

att-cb Any ACU 2400 18005551212

I'll be waiting for the on-slaught of mail.

The area code 800 directory assistance operators would probably appreciate
it if you substituted a nonexistent phone number, or changed Any to None.

Oops, one thing I did wrong. When putting the dummy entry in a Systems
file, the second field should be set to Never, not Any.

    att-cb Never ACU 2400 18005551212

By setting it to Any, I might be making some long distance operators pretty
upset. Sorry for the mistake.
