Anyone out there gatewaying a mailing list to news using recnews? If so, how do you get it to not send the articles back to the mailing list? I.E. in the sys file: MAILINGLIST:mail.list::mail place!maillist and in the aliases file maillist: |/usr/lib/news/recnews mail.list This is a simplified version of what I'm attempting to do, but it will suffice for the moment. What I've got right now is a really horrible script that checks for Sender: maillist@psuhcx.psu.edu and doesn't send it if it finds it. A better way, anyone?

Fair <fair@ucbarpa.berkeley.edu> wrote a nice set of shell, awk, and sed scripts and a few programs to do this, and that's how he maintains the inet gateways at Berkeley. He graciously offered to let us use his stuff when we set up the info-gnu-*/gnu.* gateways here. Rich Salz (rsalz@bbn.com) has reimplemented similar ideas in C, and shares his code in a similarly friendly, free-minded sort of way, but I haven't gotten around to trying it out here yet. You might ask one of those two to share their work with you. We were at about the stage you were at and discovered some of the odder issues involved, when Erik's code kept us from reinventing the wheel. It's an interesting exercise, but if it's already been done, I've got other things to do. -=- Bob Sutterfield, Department of Computer and Information Science The Ohio State University; 2036 Neil Ave. Columbus OH USA 43210-1277 bob@cis.ohio-state.edu or ...!{att,pyramid,killer}!cis.ohio-state.edu!bob
