[first off, why is there news.sysadmin and news.admin? is there a difference? my "newsgroups" file says "Comments directed to system adminstrators" for both] I've posted a similiar request before, but didn't get any replies that helped solved things. Perhaps rephrasing/additional info will help. We get a newsfeed from uunet, and everyday I get a report mailed to me. This excerpt is typical: System Accept Reject Junked Xmit to Control % total % rejct uunet 652 0 2 0 3 100% 0% TOTALS 652 0 2 0 3 100% 0% Total Articles processed 652, old 1 Control Invocations cancel 3, 1 failed Received Article Length Problems System Zero Short Smax Savg Long Lmax Lavg Total % Tot uunet 0 2 3 2 256 2 1 258 39% ^^^^^ and here is one more: System Accept Reject Junked Xmit to Control % total % rejct local 1 0 0 0 0 0% 0% uunet 949 0 5 0 3 99% 0% TOTALS 950 0 5 0 3 100% 0% Total Articles processed 950 Control Invocations cancel 3, 2 failed Received Article Length Problems System Zero Short Smax Savg Long Lmax Lavg Total % Tot uunet 0 1 125 125 269 4 1 270 28% ^^^^^ The thing that bothers me is having so many articles marked as "long". We get a compressed batched news feed of approx. 50k chunks. We used to get 150k chunks, but it seemed like we were missing more news. I have some questions: Have other people receiving from uunet (or anywhere else, for that matter) experienced this problem? Is the "long" article count/% relevant? Should I switch to ihave/sendme? If I do, is it going to take a lot more time to get the news? Perhaps relevant...we seem to have problems getting mail from uunet as well (it often bounces), but only from that one site. The sysadmin here and I are fairly stumped on that one. Our news and mail machine, island, is a Sun 2/170 running 3.2, with the standard uucp/sendmail that comes with it. We're about to go with HDBuucp. Have others with Suns gone through the same problems, only to have them clear up with HDB? Thanks for any net.helpful. If you mail me, could you please Cc: a copy through sun or ucbcad.edu? It would be interesting to see what doesn't make it through uunet, but does go through other sites. Perhaps I could see a pattern to it that way. By the way, none of this should be taken as a flame on uunet. I like what we have gotten from them. I just want to be sure that we're set up correctly. dan -- DanSmith IslandGraphics 4000CivicCenterDr SanRafael MarinCo CA 94903 4154911000 daniel@island.uu.net {ucbvax!ucbcad, sun, well, unicom, uunet}!island!daniel home: 415 332 FAST | dis: Nobodys' fault but mine I've got to admit it's getting better, a little better, all the time
