[news.sysadmin] Problem with inews

 Hello all,

 I've recently receive some mail from my neighbor's uucp account,
 and the error message was not very descriptive.
 Could somebody please explain to me what these error messages mean:

 1- remote execution      [uucp job versatcX07c2 (10/13-0:57:57)]
      rnews 
exited with status 1

    ===== stderr was =====
inews: : Inbound news is garbled

  and

 2- uuxqt cmd (rnews ) status (signal 0, exit 1)

When this happend to me, it turned out to be a compression problem -
my feed was doing 16-bit compression, but my system can only handle
12-bit. This is v. easily fixed in the invocation of sendbatch.
This is ONE possibility and worth checking out.
