[news.sysadmin] Virus Punishments - it's all so simple

dmccart@cadfs2.intel.com (Doug McCarthy ~) (11/10/88)

Look, people, this punishment deal isn't as tough as everyone's
made it out to be. This guy *did* do something, that cost many many
people a lot of time and hardships.

Sun did not do it. DEC did not do it. Berkeley did not do it.
He did it.

He did not cost a lot of people their lives, or their jobs,
or their fortunes. He DID cost a lot of people their time. These
people are not as bad off as they would be if he put a little
'cd /; rm -rf *' into it. BUT THESE PEOPLE HAVE LOST QUITE A BIT,
against their will, and he did it.

Should he be thanked? Of course not. Should anyone else
be punished? Of course not. Should he be given the death penalty?
Of course not.

Should he be punished? Of course.
