I know this has been discussed before, but my memory seems to be failing. What are the factors limiting the number of newsgroups, and how hard/easy would it be to increase the limit. I'm running 2.11 news at patch level 14 "Out of the frying pan (hardware), and into the fire (software)!" In src/defs.h:
#define LINES 512 /* maximum no. of lines in .newsrc */
Ours was knocked up to 1024 a long, long time ago. A trivial change,
recompile and re-install.

Although most of us are comfortably ensconced on 32-bit machines now, I just checked and found 101 PDP-11s listed in the uucp map. -- Larry Campbell The Boston Software Works, Inc. campbell@bsw.com 120 Fulton Street wjh12!redsox!campbell Boston, MA 02146
