There has, from time to time, been a recurring interest expressed in the devlopment of an updated version of uuhosts which would incorporate new features and strategies different than the original. I believe there was such a thought expressed by someone recently in the context of the problem of a problem in the use of chroot() for unpacking of maps. Some time ago, I began work on my own version of uuhosts because of various dissatisfactions with the way the original did (or didn't do) some things. Incorporated into it were a number of ideas which came from other people, and a few of my own. From what I have read on the net, it seems apparent that others have also put together their own versions owing to similar concerns. Is it possible that there is some real guru out there to whom these various versions (with different ideas about how to resolve issues of security and convenience) could be submitted for review? This would not be a "contest" intended to produce a "winner", but rather a forum for gathering together the collected ideas of all the people who have devoted effort and talent in attempting to overcome some of the (real or perceived) flaws in the vanilla version, and suggesting improvements that could then be incorporated into a "new" version. Given the rapid rate at which maps are now incoming to my site, I can't imagine having to deal with it all manually. If we really want sites to be maintaining current maps - but without serious security concerns - then it may be time to put together an improved tool to do this job. Would this approach work?
