[news.sysadmin] bad configuration for postnews

blue@altger.UUCP (blue) (12/10/88)

Well, i'd like to know if on other's systems the following happens.
Go posting news (postnews).
From your editor escape out on shell.
check out your ids. On altos you are "news".
This means you can go inside /usr/lib/news (or whatever) and
modify the whole configuration.

Is this an abnormal news setup or is it common?

This is clearly abnormal. Postnews doesn't need to be s[ug]id, since the
actual handling of the article is done by inews (which *is* suid news).
Anyways, stop asking about specialities on altger, the whole system setup
is a bit flaky.
