[news.sysadmin] MICROSAT

dbinette@van-bc.UUCP (Dave Binette) (12/23/88)

Users interested in Microsat information will not get that information by
posting to news.stargate.

I also do not know where to direct follow-ups and discussions of Microsat
should be located. I guess this is as good a place as any until somebody
informs me otherwise.

NEWS FLASH!!
Telesat Canada and Norsat International have arranged with CANCOM
for the satellite uplink. IT IS NOW ONLINE.
     ANIK D1, transponder 11b (22) subfreq. 6.6735 MHz

Microspace and Norsat International have arranged a US uplink.
     GE-K2
     Should be available in Jan-89.

Personal Space Communications is porting to a compaq 386 and expects to
begin sporadic test transmissions till Jan-15 89.
USENET broadcast will follow.

The CYCLOPS forward error correcting software is being tested and is
proving sufficient to maintain reliable data transfers.
(sorry no real #'s regarding correction performance yet)
CYCLOPS uses the DED/SEC. (double error detection/single error correction)
and can accomodate other algorithms for correction as well, such as BCH.
Packet size is 512 bytes.

The companion receive software..CYCLONE.. is the application package to
receive the satellite files in unnattended mode and has signifcant portions
under development. (the *IX version is easy, its the DOS version thats taking
the most time)

For those who are technically inclined (: the MICROSAT card itself uses
locations 0x1fc, 0x1fd, 0x1fe and 0x1ff and accesses these areas ONLY for
tuning the card for data/audio/video frequency and bandwidth.

Personal EMAIL is welcome as per the reply-to: line above.
