I'm trying to get a news feed going; we are going to feed another site. Both running Sys V Rel 3 and news sw as of 9/88. I put an entry in the sys file for the to.neighbor, created the group, and tried to send a test message with postnews. I'm using the default DFTXMIT. Nothing happens. Postnews tells me the message was sent successfully, and indeed, I get the messge in the right place on *my* system, but postnews doesn't queue the job to go out! However, I can get it queued by issuing a uux command manually, as follows uux - -r -z neighbor!rnews < filename_of_random_news_file Surely I don't have to do this for every news item! Uux is sposed to get its stdin exactly how? Anybody know what's going on here? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Please respond by email. Sandy (sun, uunet)!opusys!sandy

Assuming you are using the F flag in your sys file, you must make sure that there is a crontab entry to periodically run sendbatch. Sendbatch is the program that actually queues outgoing news via uux.

In a previous life (as a news admin) I had the same type of problem. I don't recall the excat specifics, but basically what had happened was I specified one directory when installing the news software, but then changed my mind about some directory names. As it turned out the sendbatch script was still using the directory that I specified at intstall time, and not the directory I was really using for outgoing news. I hope this helps, but these are foggy memories nowdays..... -brad- -- v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v Brad Turner 1330 Ashleybrook Ln.
