[news.sysadmin] Posting articles message. What does this mean?

tran@versatc.UUCP (Tony Tran) (04/02/89)

Recently, after posting a message, I've noticed that the following
message shows up:

Your article was spooled for later processing

I kind of expect the message to be processed immediately, but I haven't
seem message like (article posted successfully ... anymore).

What went wrong? Is this the new feature of patch 16 and 17 on 2.11B that
I didn't know about?

I noticed this myself last evening while posting a few articles. I
believe this happens when expire(8) is running to prevent conflicts
with control files.

This has been around quite a while. It's in the patches as early
as PATCH-03, and I believe it predates that. It is displayed by inews (see
inews.c) if you post while expire is running.
