[news.sysadmin] a quick question about Kill files

fr@icdi10.UUCP (Fred Rump from home) (06/23/89)

I'm new at this and running B news 2.11 (I don't even know if that stands for
patch level 11?)

Anyway, I'm trying to teach myself stuff about this wonderful piece of
software. I have reference to a document dated Dec. 24th, 1987 UNIX 5.0
(local). I presume that is a MAN page. I'm running on a 386 Xenix box.

My problem is trying to get this bugger to automatically junk articles send by
certain sites or people. I'm tired of the 'n' key. That would seem to be an
easy task but I'm striking out and must be doing something stupid.

I have tried various combinations of /pattern/h:j or /pattern/a:j where
pattern is the name@site in my Kill file. It works fine if I use 'h' only for
the subject header or 'a' only for words in the text itself. But how do I
search thru all the other header info? 'a' doesn't seem to look at everything
as the manual says. Am I simply running software that needs to be upgraded to
later patch levels?

Can anybody drop me a hint? An example?

Thanks
Fred Rump
