I asked in news.groups if there was a newsgroup for system administrators. The large number of replies I got all said that news.sysadmin is the answer. By its name, I thought it was for administrators of news feeds (and by the name news.admin too). Well, I don't see any articles on system administrators. Am I in the wrong place, or is everyone abusing this newsgroup? (Sorry for the meta-discussion, but it seems necessary.) I think your sentiments are the same as those that prompted Michael C. Berch to propose renaming news.sysadmin to comp.sysadmin. If it were simply about news administration, the traffic here would be better off in news.admin. The current names are confusing, and I would support the change that Michael proposed. Should this be considered a call for discussion? (Mind you, I still would not go wading about news.groups to find the discussion or the call for votes.)

I am going to post a proposal and call for discussion for the renaming in a day or two. I thought it might be possible to do it forthwith, as a "bug fix" rather than a "feature enhancement", but I got so little mail about the original proposal (3 in favor, 1 neutral but confused) that I guess it should just go to a vote like other stuff. -- Michael C.
