[news.sysadmin] Wanted: b-testers for a netlib-like program

venta@i2ack.UUCP (Paolo Ventafridda) (10/02/89)

I am looking for someone willing to test a "netlib"-like software
on his machine, in order to fix problems before releasing the
program in the PD. I already took care of SCO-Xenix (286-386) Sys V,
Interactive 386, Microport 286, SCO-Unix, NCR Unix V.2 .
I really need someone on BSD Unix, SUN O.S., HP-UX and others..

The program is called "RNAlib", it's 100% written in Bourne-shell,
and it is quite easy to install. Problems may appear for side-effects
results of unix commands like "file", "grep" and so on..
Contributions to the "porting" may be given either fixing the problems
or sending errors detected. A knowledge of mailers, and of course of
the Bourne shell, is required. Suggestions always welcome ;-)

The RNA was already spread through comp.sources.misc on 10th of August;
i had some feedbacks from people trying to run it on SUN O.S, without
success. While the previous version (1.0) could be easily patched
without much effort, this one is harder to follow, and that's why i
would try to create "diffs" available for as much systems as possible.
Current capabilities are very close to those of Netlib by AT&T ;-)
Source code is less than 25K, as a SINGLE program, no splitted parts,
no daemons to install in your cron for testing, no message files
to fill, just few "index" files and you are ready to go.

Volunteers may contact me on Usenet at i2ack.UUCP which is
reachable through ddsw1!deejay (ddsw1.MCS.COM). No EUNET sites
please, we are always "blacklisted" over mcvax, and i could not
reply/send anything there.

Thanks a lot
		Paolo

P.S.
By the way, the so-called underground network down here is now lawfully
acknowledged, and we are trying to get a second-level domain. Just
to let someone know we are always up.. without tricks. ;-)
