I am trying to set up a new BSD4.3 UNIX system to handle UUCP, and am having trouble knowing where all the config files are supposed to be because the books I have on the subject appear to be for different versions of UNIX. What exactly goes in the /etc/ttys line for the serial port I am using for a v.32 Hayes compatible modem, and what other files do I use? How do I test the modem to see if it is operational, or for that matter send commands to it at all? Suppose I want to hook up to a remote system using SLIP. What do I change in this configuration? Much obliged for any help; the manuals that came with this system are (like many UNIX manuals, very incomplete. (The word MODEM appears only once in the index, and that not in the context I need.)
