[news.sysadmin] perl checkgroups

skunz@iastate.edu (Kunz Steven L) (03/19/91)

Within the last 2-3 months someone posted a perl script that performed the
news "checkgroups" script function (in a much improved manner). It took input
from several sources and created a much cleaner "newsgroups" output than the
stock shell script distributed with Cnews.

If you have a copy of that perl script, please mail it to:

That was me.

I'll repost it to alt.sources if anybody else wants it.

[Asks that a copy of a recently-posted perl checkgroups script be mailed to
him.]

I would *much* appreciate this as well--not only for the cleaner output
claimed, but because I find that large numbers of top-level names break our
version of checkgroups (we run B news 2.11, and our checkgroups script
occasionally sends an oversized RE to egrep).

If it's not too long, I'd like to see it posted again.
