[news.software.b] Article count is wrong in rn

ss@wanginst.EDU (Sid Shapiro) (12/04/86)

Hi folks,
I am running 2.11 news, patched to level 5 and rn patched to level 39.
I installed all patches 28-39 in two fell swoops, I stopped once only to
recompile but not intensively test.

I now find that rn is counting articles wrong. At the newsgroup prompt, it
will say (for example) 100 articles remain when in factr I know that there
are none. This is particularly true when I do a "c" catchup, then "g" back
to that group it loses the fact that all are caught up. It seems that it is
counting wrong at other times, but I haven't a high enough frustration level
to find it right now. Any ideas?

More information on the rn article count being wrong.

General information - Ultrix 1.2, VAX

Details:
rn is screwing up the .newsrc file - it is doing things like:

1. rn a group - say test - say there are articles 1-10, so when I read them
my newsrc should have a line that looks something like
test: 1-10

2. next time I do rn, I don't read any test articles - when I exit that line
now says
test:
with no articles read. ARGGGG

Any more help?
