I backed up to the original release news 2.11 software and applied all the patches, just to be sure the rejection wasn't my fault. One hunk was still rejected from patch 5. The rejected hunk from patch 5 looked very important to me. It includes the code that stops an rnews -U if expire starts up. So I applied the patch by hand. But now rnews -U is running most of the time, and getting stuck some of the time. (The two circumstances may not be related.) I notice three lock files now: active.lock SPOOLDIR/.rnews.lock, and SPOOLDIR/.rnews.lock.tmp. I'm on a system with 14 character file names, and .rnews.lock.tmp is 15 characters, and never goes away. I thought maybe the unlink was failing and changed the name to .rnews.lock.tp, but it still never goes away. Is it supposed to go away? -- Mojo ...
