Lately i've been noticing zero length files owned by news in our /tmp. Like: -rw-r--r-- 1 news 0 Apr 28 11:09 /tmp/L<1831@trwrb.uucp> -rw-r--r-- 1 news 0 Apr 28 11:11 /tmp/L<1832@trwrb.uucp> -rw-r--r-- 1 news 0 Apr 28 11:12 /tmp/L<1833@trwrb.uucp> Apparently, users were trying to post articles (with Pnews and postnews) and when ../lib/news/log exceeded 1MB (we set a filesize limit of 1MB for new users) they would receive an error message and terminate without posting. but, these L* Files would be left around by inews. (Probably a problem linking and writing the log file.) (I've also noticed .in* files in /usr/spool/news .) To get around this, we just truncate the log file sooner via cron. Has anyone else experience this? And is there a fix? We're running news 2.11 (patch 4) on a Pyramid 98X.
