I recently upgraded from patch 8 to patch 14, and since then, have been unable to add sites with which I exchange news. As in the days when I was running news patch 8, I am just editing the sys file and adding lines of the form: sysname:group1,group2,....:F:/usr/spool/batch/sysname Nothing is ending up in /usr/spool/batch for the new sites that I exchange news with (or am supposed to exchange news with if I could). News arriving from other sites isn't getting relayed to the new sites, and locally posted news isn't getting sent either, even though it is ending up in /usr/spool/news. Am I doing something wrong? Are there additional things I need to do to add a new site to those I already exchange news with, now that I am running news patch 14? The old sites (the ones that existed before I did the news upgrade) are getting news as always. It's only the new sites that don't get anything. Any help much appreciated. Thanks. A few days ago, I posted a question about adding new newsfeeds. I have since received numerous replies informing me that I need to put distributions, as well as newsgroup names into the second field of the sys file: I never realised that because all the old (pre-update to patch 14) were taking all the newsgroups we had, while the new ones only wanted one newsgroup. What exactly is the purpose of the distributions that are placed in the second field of the sys file? My docs tell my that only newsgroups belong here. I guess that an article that is posted with distribution na will go only to systems that have na in their sys file entry. But what if they have world there? Do they still get the article?
