Nahhh...  False alarm.  News software didn't break that.  The person --
much like yourself (no slur meant!) who edits out the ">" preceeding
included text to get around the line inclusion limits.

If you look at 2447@hall.cray.com, you'll see that the poster did the
same thing you did...  CHanged ">" to "|".  Unfortunately, it caught
the ">" in the Reference line also (the first one).  Proof???  Well,
check the "In article ....." line -- text not header -- in the same
message.  The sender did something like:

	1,$s/>/|/

Cancel BOGON ALERT.

That's not as weird as it might seem.  It is probably the result of
someone@sdeggo doing an F in rn, and, not wanting to get bitten by the
"user included more text than new text" defense mechanism of 2.11
inews, did a global replacement of all `>' with `|'.

	As several people have already pointed out to me, the most probable
cause of the problem was somebody doing a "1,$s/>/|/" to get around inews's
line counting "feature".
