I hope that this is the proper newsgroup for this posting. My apologies if it is not, but please help me anyway. I have recently installed the news software (B 2.11 4/10/87) with all of the latest patches (I forget which ones) on a Convergent S-120 box running their version of SVR3. I am having problems with uucp (HDB) not handling the remote news feed. By tracking uucp I can see that I am being fed the news but uucp doesn't seem to do anything with it. It ends up somewhere in never-never land. It is obvious that we can post news (you are reading this). My news feed is polyslo! and we are northway!. The following four files are northway!'s /usr/lib/uucp/Permissions file, northway!'s sys file, northway!'s mailpaths file, and polyslo!'s sys file. I do realize that the Permissions file makes for a very unsecure path into the machine, but I am trying anything and everything to get this thing working. This is a followup to my previous request for help. Also my readnews and vnews can't find news. My previous post is where it belongs (../news/spool/news/software/b/1), but when I run readnews or vnews, they respond with 'no news'. My .newsrc file lists news.software.b as a valid news group.
