[news.software.b] followups munged by "l" command

det@hawkmoon.MN.ORG (Derek E. Terveer) (03/07/88)

I'm sure that i'm not the first one to have seen this, but i've seen a lot of
discussion on other bugs and never any mention of this one. Probably because
it doesn't affect anything (like running out space, etc..).

If i'm reading an article and i then type "l" to get a list of the rest of the
unread articles (obstensibly to see if my followup that i'm about to make has
already been nullified by someone else's) (still think that there should be
some sort of command, like "p" finds a parent article, maybe "d" to find all
daughter articles, but i seriously digress (:-)), and discover that i can
followup anyway and type an "f" to followup, the included text will not be the
article that i was reading that is currently displayed on the screen, but
rather the last article listed in the summary produced by the "l" command.
Most annoying. There doesn't seem to be any way around this but to exit News
and re-enter.

Any ideas on a patch or will the new News fix this and render any effort in
this direction wasted?

(Note: I assume you're referring to vnews.)
The workaround is to explicitly select the article again with 123A for article
123, then followup. But where's the bug? This never happened before I
(fool that I am) upgraded from patch level 8 to 14.

Any ideas?
